PhD Position at the Dept. of Neurophysiology and Pathophysiology, Hamburg


The Dept. of Neurophysiology and Pathophysiology (Head: Prof. Dr. Andreas K. Engel) at 
the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (Germany) invites applications for a 
PhD student position. The position is available with immediate start. The appointment will 
be for 3 years.

Areas of interest comprise the investigation of dynamic, large-scale neural interactions 
and the characterization of functional networks during perceptual and attentional 
processes in autism spectrum disorders, using techniques such as eye tracking and EEG/ 
MEG (possibly also fMRI). Recruitment of individuals with autism will be performed in 
collaboration with the Department of Psychiatrie in Cologne (http://www.medizin.uni-
koeln.de/kliniken/psychiatrie/Autismus-Sprechstunde/).

Main research interests in the Department are dynamics of distributed sensory 
processing, intermodal and sensorimotor integration, as well as theories of perception, 
action and consciousness. Current projects involve EEG/MEG studies in humans or 
physiological studies in animals. Further information on research at the Department of

Applicants should have a background in psychology, medicine, biology or neuro-/ 
cognitive sciences, and ideally show experience in human EEG/ MEG studies, 
neuroimaging or biosignal analysis. Programming experience (Matlab, Presentation) is 
considered mandatory. You will be responsible for the management and implementation 
of research paradigms, recruitment and neuropsychological testing of volunteers, data 
acquisition and analysis. Interest in clinical neuroscience and neuropsychology is 
desirable as well as knowledge of the German language.
