Sounds familiar I was fighting with that one too.
What I did then was choose 'File' -> 'New Project' and save somewhere near
your .icl files.
Because as you noticed every time you start up there is this .prj named
'project1' or something in your editor.
This is your Project File, it must have a reference to your .icl files or
the prj will not compile and gives a error as above.
