Associate Director, BrainWorks (staff/research support specialist)

*Position Focus:*

The Wu Tsai Institute is an interdisciplinary neuroscience initiative at
Yale University with the mission to understand human cognition and explore
human potential. Marking a strategic, cross-university investment by Yale,
the Institute unites researchers, departments, and schools at 100 College
Street. The Institute stimulates research across disciplines such as
biology, cognitive science, computer science, data science, engineering,
neuroscience and psychology through funding mechanisms, programs, and
access to state-of-the-art technology and resources.

The Center for Neurocognition and Behavior, one of the Institute’s three
research centers, is building a world-class facility for measuring the
healthy human brain and behavior in action. Located on the first floor of
100 College Street with a dedicated entrance, this facility will house
state-of-the-art equipment including MRI, MEG, OPM, EEG, NIRS, TMS, VR,
eye-tracking, and body motion tracking. These tools are made available to
trained faculty, postdocs, grad students, and undergraduates for research
and education. The Associate Director, BrainWorks is responsible for MEG,
OPM, EEG, NIRS, and VR facility operations, equipment maintenance, and
protocol development. The position reports to the Managing Director of the
Institute, with technical supervision by the Director of BrainWorks.

*Essential Duties*

1. Manages research support for research and clinical needs. 2. Contributes
to defining the direction of research design. 3. Prepares project designs
and determines cost estimates. 4. Directs and manages research support
services for University-wide research. 5. Meets with clients and evaluates
problems and defines scope of projects. Discusses and negotiates project
designs and costs with prospective clients. 6. Determines and develops
material specifications and purchases. 7. Assigns design projects to staff.
8. Ensures technical effectiveness and manages departmental operation for
research support services. 9. Monitors project schedules and assigns
billing charges. 10. Ensures the quality of the design of research
instruments. 11. Consults with research committees on research instrument
designs. 12. Develops and monitors department budget. 13. Administers and
oversees short and long term department goals. 14. May perform other duties
as assigned.

*Required Education and Experience*

Bachelor's Degree in a related field and seven years of related experience
in a research development facility or an equivalent combination of
education and experience.

*Required Skill/Ability 1:*

Data collection expertise: previous experience collecting behavioral and
neurophysiological data in a mobile, naturalistic, or virtual reality
environment; understanding of MEG and EEG safety, ethics, and information
governance.

*Required Skill/Ability 2:*

Professionalism: High levels of energy, motivation, resourcefulness, and
self-reliance; high levels of organization and attention to detail;
professional demeanor and appearance, and friendly and patient attitude;
ability to work well with researchers with a wide range of backgrounds and
skillsets; ability to communicate and write clearly.

*Required Skill/Ability 3:*

Demonstrated familiarity with different operating systems, including
Unix/Linux; knowledge of Python or Matlab programming; knowledge of signal
processing and statistics.

*Required Skill/Ability 4:*

Excellent skills in office IT systems, including email, internet, MS Office
applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to use web-based
resources to search and manage science-related material.

*Required Skill/Ability 5:*

Ability to work with sensitive equipment in magnetically shielded rooms.

*Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:*

Masters degree or higher in relevant area of science or engineering. Three
or more years of experience with human neurophysiology data. Demonstrated
experience contributing to the publication of research articles. Experience
with NIRS, eye-tracking, and/or VR.
