Dear FieldTrip Community,

I came across this email<https://mailman.science.ru.nl/pipermail/fieldtrip/2022-July/041591.html> from two years ago regarding how to contribute test data and run test scripts in FieldTrip.

First to share your test data you should contact the FT developers. They are the ones managing the data in the download server. As mentioned in this webpage<https://www.fieldtriptoolbox.org/development/guideline/documentation/#how-to-update-the-tutorial-data-on-the-download-server>: ‘’ To get new files on the download server<https://download.fieldtriptoolbox.org/>, or update existing files, you should copy them on the DCCN central storage system to the directory /home/common/matlab/fieldtrip/data/ftp. That directory is automatically synchronized with the download server.’’

Second, regarding running test scripts. Last year we made testing more straight-forward and easy. Especially for external contributors, when you make a contribution, you are advised to run test scripts as follows:

  1. Find the tests that use public or no data. To do that use the code given in our testing webpage<https://www.fieldtriptoolbox.org/development/testing/#finding-tests>.
  2. Run the test scripts. Public data will automatically download to your temp directory, requiring no manual action.
  3. That’s it. Now you can share your contribution as a PR through GitHub 😊

Best,
Konstantinos
