[FieldTrip] Help with source reconstruction

Hello,
I have a question regarding the use of the following function:
function [headmodel, sens] = ft_prepare_vol_sens(headmodel, sens, varargin)
It is not clear to me the necessity of the use of this function, it seems
to be used before the ft_prepare_leadfield from the tutorial. Is it
necessary or not? And it is has to be used both for the distributed source
model and the dipole one?
