Within the European Training Network CherISH, there are openning 12 PhD
positions. The network investigates spatial hearing in cochlear implant
users. A cochlear implant (CI) is a hearing prosthesis that bypasses
sound transduction in the middle and inner ear and directly stimulates
the auditory nerve electrically. During the last decades CIs have been
shown to successfully restitute hearing in many deaf patients. While
speech comprehension in CI users works well in quiet surroundings, it
becomes more difficult in noisy environments. CherISH aims to enhance
spatial hearing in cochlear implant users, facilitating the attenuation
of disruptive background noise and the precise orientation of attention
toward the target source of sound. The project endeavors to enhance
spatial hearing in cochlear implant users by employing cutting-edge
technological advancements and personalized virtual reality-based
training strategies that cater to the specific needs of the patients.
Further information on the projects can be found on the EURAXESS
platform (https://euraxess.ec.europa.eu/jobs/159007
<https://euraxess.ec.europa.eu/jobs/159007>).
The network consists of 7 Partners and 4 Associated Partners (7
countries) who will provide research facilities and training. Applicants
should have a Master degree in life sciences (biology, neurobiology,
neurophysiology, neuroscience, medicine or closely related fields)
and/or a Master in biomedical engineering, physics and neurocomputation,
machine learning. The candidate should be highly motivated with a strong
interest in the manifold aspects of hearing.
For the EU-funded positions, only applicants are eligible who fulfil the
EU mobility rule, according to which they must not have spent more than
one year in the hosting country during the last three years immediately
before the date of the recruitment. As part of the research network,
doctoral students will complete a comprehensive training programme
together with the other network students. The doctoral candidates are
supposed to carry out the planned research project with great care and
responsibility. Applicants for the positions will be selected on the
basis of expertise and skills by a local selection committee (one per
host organisation).
