Postdoctoral Fellow, Cook Children’s Health Care System and University of Texas

The Neuroscience Research Center at Cook Children’s Health Care System and the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) invites applications for a postdoctoral research fellow position of highly motivated individuals with a PhD or MD in pediatric neuroimaging with emphasis on epilepsy. This training position, under the direct supervision of Prof. Christos Papadelis, will provide practical training and experience in a research setting. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a commitment to research, a collaborative work ethic and strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

The mission of the Neuroscience Research Center is to better understand pediatric neurological and behavioral disorders that will aid prompt and precise diagnosis and treatment. The center is located in Fort Worth/Dallas metropolitan area and is supported by a strong team of clinicians who offer pioneer treatments for children with epilepsy including laser ablation. The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art neuroimaging tools, including a 306-channels Neuromag TRIUX magnetoencephalography (MEG) system, a 256-channels Magstim high-density electroencephalography (HD-EEG) system, a Nexstim navigated transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) system, and several 3 Tesla MRI scanners.

Appointments will be normally made for one year, but the positions are securely funded for five years depending on performance. The ideal startup month is September 2022, but applications will be considered until the position is filled.

Responsibilities:

•        Independent project design with the goal of data generation, analysis, and interpretation

•        Collect human electrophysiological data from children with epilepsy

•        Analysis and evaluation of MEG, HD-EEG, and/or intracranial electroencephalography (iEEG) data by using sophisticated software analysis tools, such as Brainstorm, Fieldtrip, MNE-CPP, SPM, or Curry etc.

•        Implement electric and magnetic source localization methods by modifying existing scripts or developing new ones.

•        Experimental setup of pediatric MEG and HD-EEG studies.

•        Write peer-reviewed publications and participate in the preparation of grants.

•        Supervise graduate and undergraduate students.

Qualifications:

•        Doctorate degree in Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Informatics, Computer Science, Medicine, Neuroscience, or a related field.

•        Previous experience in a research or academic setting.

•        Excellent programming skills in Matlab.

•        Scientific writing experience.

•        Advanced understanding of the electromagnetic theory for signal processing analysis.

•        At least two publications as first author in peer-reviewed scientific journals with impact factor >3.

•        Previous experience in epilepsy or MEG/HD-EEG research is not required but it will be a significant plus.

•        Experience in statistical analysis packages will be a plus.

•        Excellent communication skills and fluency in English.
