Postdoctoral Position at University of Louisville



A 2 year postdoctoral position (NIH funded), starting 05/2020, is available in the Human Cognitive Neurophysiology Group (HCN) in the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Louisville School of Medicine (Louisville, KY, USA).

HCN (Drs. Neimat, van Wouwe and Kaskan) investigates the neural correlates of cognition (action control, decision-making) in the setting of human intraoperative recording and stimulation performed for the treatment of movement disorders and epilepsy.



We offer:

  *   an enthusiastic and collaborative group of neuroscientists and physicians in a clinical research environment

  *   opportunities to investigate the neural correlates of cognition in the setting of human intra operative recordings and with deep brain stimulation

  *   cutting-edge hard- and software (Neuralynx, MonkeyLogic) to record intracranial cortical and subcortical (basal ganglia) human neurophysiology during cognitive task performance

  *   support with data acquisition and subject recruitment

  *   access to patient populations (movement disorders like PD and ET, epilepsy)



Profile of qualified applicants:

  *   Ph.D. in (cognitive) neuroscience or a field related to neuroscience with a specialty in neurophysiology.

  *   experience with the collection and analysis of single-unit neural recordings and/or local field potentials (human or animal) is required (single unit, EEG, iEEG)

  *   experience programming with MATLAB/Python and familiarity with the Linux environment is highly encouraged

  *   background in experimental design

  *   very good written and oral communication skills in English

 The best candidates will be experienced neurophysiologists interested in human cognition.

The University of Louisville is a strong research environment and the postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to interact and collaborate with other departments including the Kentucky Spinal Cord Injury Research Center, the Department of Anatomical Sciences and Neurobiology, the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, and the JB Speed School of Engineering. The multi-site grant also provides the opportunity to work with Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
