Dear Robert,
I recommended the position below and the Donders Institute to a student of mine from the University of Freiburg. He studies in the Master of Neuroscience program of the University of Freiburg and has a background in engineering from his bachelor.
He participated in my course “Signal Processing and Analysis of Brain Signals” at the Technical Faculty of the University of Freiburg last year and concluded the course with an excellent exam.
He recently finished an internship in our Department of Epileptology at the University Medical Center, Freiburg, working for about three month on pattern recognition in EEG signals with a reduced electrode set.
Lakshay showed in my course and during the internship a deep interest in EEG signal processing. He can quickly anticipate new information and methods. Finally he can clearly communicate his work and is able to report results in a clear and structured way.
Lakshay Khurana applied for the position below during the weekend using the job application portal of the Donders Center. I can highly recommend you to invite Lakshay to an interview at your institution.
Groetjes,
Matthias

Fully funded PhD student position: Online analysis of brain oscillations during infants’ social interactions
Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour
Radboud University Nijmegen, The Netherlands
Application deadline: May 5, 2019
Applications are invited for a 4-year PhD position at Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands. We are looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate to conduct research on the neural mechanisms of social-cognitive development in infants. The PhD position is embedded in the SAPIENS project, a European Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network, in which 15 early-stage researchers investigate how the dynamics of early social interactions support the development of the social brain. SAPIENS combines advances in ecological, mobile real-time brain and behaviour measurement, data modeling and artificial intelligence to study early social development and to train a new generation of researchers in these ground-breaking approaches.
The PhD student will be supervised by Prof. Sabine Hunnius and Dr. Robert Oostenveld and will be part of the BabyBRAIN group (see www.dcc.ru.nl/babybrain<http://www.dcc.ru.nl/babybrain>) of the Donders Institute (DI). The DI is a state-of-the art cognitive neuroscience institute with a multidisciplinary approach (see https://www.ru.nl/donders/). It offers excellent research facilities, including a large infant lab (www.babyandchild.nl<http://www.babyandchild.nl/>), as well as outstanding PhD supervision and technical support. The PhD student will be based at Radboud University, but research visits are planned to collaborators at other research sites within the network (e.g. Birkbeck College, University of London and iMotions, Copenhagen). The intended start date is 1 September 2019.
Preference will be given to candidates with a degree in cognitive neuroscience, psychology, biomedical science, engineering science or a related field who are highly motivated to conduct challenging interdisciplinary research. You should have affinity with experimental psychology, neuroscience or neurotechnology. Demonstrable experience with techniques for quantitative data analysis and programming (e.g. MATLAB) is highly desirable. Due to the international and interdisciplinary nature of the research group, good collaborative and communication skills are essential.
Due to the mobility constraints of Marie Skodowska-Curie actions, it is a requirement that the PhD candidate has not resided in the Netherlands for more than 12 months during the last 3 years.
