Well, If you are an ordinary user, I would say that it is safest to  
use the zip.

If you are in for an experiment, use the latest in SVN. There is no  
compiled version of cfiles.c, and no guarantee that it will not  
destroy referential transparency (which is more or less why it is not  
in the zipped distribution).

In either case, you will have to find your way in the libraries  
yourself. Sorry if that sounds a bit harsh.
