Alex,

Reading your account of genetic programming, I realize that you should
read Pieter Koopman’s work, for instance:
ftp://ftp.cs.kun.nl/pub/Clean/papers/2006/koop2006-TFP06-
SystematicSynthesisOfFunctions.pdf

As in genetic programming, this apporoach to automatic testing quickly
generates thousands of functions in a systematic or random way.

In automatic testing it is done to find a counter example, in genetic
programming it is done to find a better and a better function. Although
controlling it will be different in genetic programming, the basics of
how to compose thousands of candidate functions automatically might be
very interesting to you.

By the way, Pieter Koopman’s work is based on geneRic programming,
which differs from geneTic programming.
