this world. That said. The timing for an Intel 450MHz PIII and Windows NT4:

old version ("slow one"): 40seconds
new version (John's tuned one): 20sec

Clean on the Intel is (to my surprise really fast). I did an hour ago some FFT benchmarks (will be posted after removing the nasty array
update bug) and it shows that Yorick and Clean --on the same 450MHz PIII machine--  takes for an 1024x1024 FFT exactly the same time. This
is interesting because on my old Mac Yorick is even at the FFT 10 to 20% faster.
