the European
Training Network CherISH, there are openning 12 PhD positions.
The network
investigates spatial hearing in cochlear implant users. A
cochlear implant (CI)
is a hearing prosthesis that bypasses sound transduction in the
middle and
inner ear and directly stimulates the auditory nerve
electrically. During the
last decades CIs have been shown to successfully restitute
hearing in many deaf
patients. While speech comprehension in CI users works well in
quiet
surroundings, it becomes more difficult in noisy environments.
CherISH aims to
enhance spatial hearing in cochlear implant users, facilitating
the attenuation
of disruptive background noise and the precise orientation of
attention toward
the target source of sound. The project endeavors to enhance
spatial hearing in
cochlear implant users by employing cutting-edge technological
advancements and
personalized virtual reality-based training strategies that
cater to the
specific needs of the patients. Further information on the

network consists
of 7 Partners and 4 Associated Partners</span></span><span

mso-ansi-language:EN-US" lang="EN-US"> (7 countries) who will provide
research
facilities and training. Applicants should have a Master degree
in life
sciences (biology, neurobiology, neurophysiology, neuroscience,
medicine or
closely related fields) and/or a Master in biomedical
engineering, physics and
neurocomputation, machine learning. The candidate should be
highly motivated
with a strong interest in the manifold aspects of hearing. </span></p>
<p><span
style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:black;
mso-themecolor:text1;mso-ansi-language:EN-US" lang="EN-US">For the
EU-funded positions, only
applicants are eligible who fulfil the EU mobility rule,
according to which
they must not have spent more than one year in the hosting
country during the
last three years immediately before the date of the recruitment.
As part of the
research network, doctoral students will complete a
comprehensive
training programme together with the other network students. The
doctoral
candidates are supposed to carry out the planned research
project with great
care and responsibility. Applicants for the positions will be
selected on the
basis of expertise and skills by a local selection committee
(one per host
organisation).</span></p>
