COGNITIVE NEUROSCIENCE<br>
The Department of Neurophysiology and Pathophysiology (Head: Prof. Dr.
Andreas<br>
K. Engel) at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (Germany)
invites<br>
applications for a PhD student position which is available for 3 years,
starting in April<br>
2008.<br>
The position is funded by the European Union as part of the
international research<br>
project „BrainSync – Large scale interactions in brain networks and
their breakdown<br>
in brain diseases“ and is devoted to studying „default state“ networks
and<br>
sensorimotor interactions in normal volunteers and patients with
multiple sclerosis<br>
using EEG, MEG and fMRI. The project involves cooperations with partner
groups in<br>
the UK, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium and the Czeck
Republic. The<br>
selected candidate will have the opportunity for research visits to the
partner<br>
laboratories.<br>
Main research interests of the Department of Neurophysiology are the
dynamics of<br>
distributed sensory processing, intermodal and sensorimotor
integration, as well as<br>
theories of perception, action and consciousness. Current projects
involve<br>
EEG/MEG/fMRI studies in humans or physiological studies in animals.

Applicants should have a background in psychology, medicine, biology or<br>
neuroscience. Fluency in English and German is required. Experience in
human<br>
imaging studies or biosignal analysis is desirable.<br>
